President Trump confirmed a Washington Post report that he left Turkey in July aboard a decoy plane due to a threat of an Iranian assassination plot.
The New York Times provided additional details about the reported plot, saying U.S. intelligence had picked up several pieces of information pointing to a specific threat against the aircraft carrying Trump. Intelligence indicated that a surface-to-air missile could be used to target Air Force One, meaning whichever plane was carrying the president, and a person near the NATO summit was reportedly seen carrying a shoulder-fired missile.
Iranian operatives also allegedly knew Trump’s exact location in Ankara, including the floor where he was staying.
