Trump to send Congress his budget request April 3

President Trump plans to send Congress a budget request on April 3 outlining his policy and funding priorities for the fiscal year beginning in October, a White House budget office spokesperson said.

It is unclear whether he will also submit a supplemental military funding request at the same time to support the U.S. conflict in Iran. The White House has spent more than a week reviewing a Pentagon request for about $200 billion in emergency funding for new military action in the Middle East.

Trump already called in January for a $1.5 trillion defense budget for the upcoming fiscal year, a $500 billion increase from current Pentagon funding levels.

His budget is set to reach Capitol Hill nearly nine weeks after its Feb. 2 deadline. While nonbinding, the delay has frustrated top appropriators in both parties, who rely on it to begin drafting the dozen annual funding bills Congress must pass by Sept. 30.
