Two ISIS terrorists eliminated in Iraq airstrikes, including commander
The Iraqi military announced Thursday that two ISIS terrorists, including a prominent regional commander, were killed in separate airstrikes in the eastern province of Diyala, according to Xinhua.
The Iraqi Joint Operations Command’s Security Media Cell said Iraqi F-16s carried out the precision strikes on a terrorist hideout following months of surveillance and detailed intelligence gathering.
One of those killed was identified as Mohannad Karim Ali, a senior local figure within the terrorist organization.
ISIS seized large parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014, declaring a “caliphate” across territory under its control. Military campaigns, including operations backed by the U.S.-led international coalition, later stripped ISIS of most of that territory, including its de facto capital of Raqqa, Syria.
Despite those losses, ISIS sleeper cells remain active and continue carrying out deadly attacks in Iraq and Syria. Iraqi authorities also regularly announce the arrest of suspected ISIS members as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations.
