Two Jerusalem Residents Indicted for Espionage Ties to Iranian Agent
Israeli authorities have filed indictments against two residents of the Jerusalem area in a serious espionage case involving contact with an Iranian intelligence agent.
The investigation, conducted by the Israel Police’s Central Unit (Yamark Shai) and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), found that during 2025 and early 2026 the two individuals maintained contact with Iranian operatives and carried out various intelligence-related tasks in exchange for payments in cryptocurrency exceeding 100,000 NIS.
According to the indictment, one suspect initially communicated with the Iranian agent via Telegram, performing assigned tasks for financial compensation. He later involved his brother, and the two worked together over an extended period, fully aware of the hostile nature of their contact.
Their activities allegedly included transmitting sensitive information, impersonating others—including a member of the IDF’s Unit 8200—and creating sophisticated false representations using advanced technological tools, including artificial intelligence.
The indictment charges the two with contacting a foreign agent, providing information to an enemy, passing intelligence potentially useful to the enemy, and identity fraud. Israeli security agencies continue to emphasize the seriousness of espionage threats to national security.
