UN to Deploy Investigators to Lebanon to Probe Potential Violations of International Law
The United Nations human rights office will dispatch a specialized team of investigators to Lebanon next week to assess potential violations of international law committed during the ongoing war between Israel and the Hezbollah terrorist group.
UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk announced that this marks the first time such an assessment mission is being deployed to the area.
Türk stated that the team’s objective is to examine, document, and eventually report on potential violations of both international humanitarian law and international human rights law by all parties involved in the conflict.
The announcement comes as hostilities continue despite persistent diplomatic efforts and ceasefire discussions backed by Washington.
Alongside the security crisis, the UN highlighted a severe deterioration in local humanitarian conditions, estimating that nearly one in four people in Lebanon—approximately 1.24 million individuals—faces emergency levels of food insecurity.
