Saudi outlet Al Arabiya is publishing, it claims, the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
The preliminary framework (often described as a 14-point document) for ending the current conflict. It sets the stage for a 60-day (extendable) negotiation period toward a final, more comprehensive agreement. The MoU has reportedly been electronically signed.
Core Commitments:
– Immediate permanent ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. No further hostilities or threats.
– Maritime reopening – The US immediately lifts its naval blockade on Iran. Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, returning to pre-war levels within 30 days.
– US military withdrawal from the region within 30 days of the final agreement.
– Economic relief – The US authorizes Iranian oil exports (with full banking, insurance, and shipping support) and releases frozen Iranian funds. All sanctions, including UN and IAEA measures, will be lifted under the final deal.
– Reconstruction – The US and regional partners will support a plan for Iran’s rebuilding, backed by at least $300 billion in funding/investments.
– Nuclear pledge – Iran commits: “We will never produce nuclear weapons.” Its current enriched uranium status remains unchanged until the final agreement resolves remaining nuclear issues.
Negotiations for the full deal are set to begin immediately and conclude within 60 days, to be endorsed by a UN Security Council resolution. A formal signing is expected soon.
