Armed Suspects Steal Up to $1.8M in Philadelphia Brinks Truck Robbery Amid Wave of Similar Heists
Two masked men armed with rifles carried out a daylight robbery of a Brinks armored truck in Tacony, Northeast Philadelphia, escaping with up to $1.8 million in cash.
Philadelphia Police said that the robbery happened around 9:45 a.m. on April 21 in the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue, as the truck serviced a Budget Financial Center. Brinks is a national cash logistics company that transports money for banks and retailers.
Police said a blue Acura SUV pulled into the lot. Two suspects in black exited, pointed rifles at the driver, and forced him to hand over bags of cash before fleeing within seconds. No injuries were reported. Surveillance footage shows the armed confrontation.
Shortly after, police found a blue Acura believed used in the robbery under I-95 near Front Street and Fairmount Avenue in Northern Liberties. The FBI is now leading the investigation with local police.
The case adds to a string of 2025 armored truck robberies in the region. In June, three men were charged in a Port Richmond heist involving about $2 million. Later that month, armed robbers stole about $100,000 and a driver’s handgun during a Loomis delivery at an Aldi on Whitaker Avenue.
On July 2, three men robbed a Brinks driver at Holmesburg Shopping Center, taking an undisclosed amount and a firearm. On July 15, an attempted Rhawnhurst robbery ended after the driver fired at suspects, who fled in a black Nissan Maxima and on foot.
On July 22, an armed suspect stole about $700,000 from a Cheltenham H Mart. Another robbery there occurred Aug. 12, with suspects fleeing in a black Acura later recovered.
In October, two men were indicted for Brinks robberies in Elkins Park and on Castor Avenue. Federal investigators have linked multiple cases to organized gangs using stolen vehicles and high-powered firearms. Authorities are asking for information.
