Bridge on Route to Uman Damaged in Russian Strike
A bridge near Mayaki, along the route from the Palanca border crossing into Ukraine, was reportedly damaged in an overnight Russian attack on the Odesa region, raising concerns about major travel disruptions ahead of Rosh Hashanah.
If the bridge is not repaired in time, tens of thousands of Breslover Chassidim traveling to Uman could face significant delays and severe congestion at alternate border crossings.
The bridge is also a critical connection to Ukraine’s Danube ports and is also used to transport supplies to the Southern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its damage is expected to complicate military logistics and regional traffic.
The Danube ports, including Reni and Izmail, have become Ukraine’s main alternative route for grain and other cargo exports following attacks on the ports of Greater Odesa. Traffic across the damaged bridge is currently blocked, with a long line of vehicles reported in the area.
Russia and Ukraine traded heavy blows overnight, with hundreds of strikes killing at least 18 people and injuring more than 100.
Four people, including a 3-year-old boy and his grandparents, were killed in Russian strikes on civilian areas in Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. In Kharkiv, a missile hit a high-rise, killing three and wounding 37. Moscow said the strikes targeted Ukrainian drone warehouses.
Another six were killed near frontlines in Sumy, Kherson and Donetsk. In Odesa, at least eight were injured by “dozens of missiles and drones.”
Ukrainian officials said 13 people were killed and 90 wounded nationwide in 24 hours.
