Journalist Inbar Twizer of Channel 12 News posted a video on social media on the eve of Independence Day showing two young Chassidic men collecting donations for a hachnasas kallah
In the clip, her husband is heard ridiculing the two, who appear uncomfortable and embarrassed. The footage was shared online without blurring, as Twizer and her husband confront them, rebuke them, and urge them to enlist in the IDF.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, particularly within the Charedi community, where many viewed the video as an expression of hostility and disrespect. Numerous reactions flooded social media, condemning what was perceived as public shaming.
Aryeh Ehrlich sharply criticized Twizer, writing that while Jewish holidays are meant to reflect kindness, charity, and unity, her actions amounted to publicly shaming two minors who had innocently knocked on their door seeking donations. He described the incident as filled with mockery, contempt, and condescension, accusing her of humiliating the boys for the sake of social media attention.
In response to the incident, Aryeh Deri donated 1,000 shekels toward the hachnasas kallah effort.
Twizer addressed the backlash the following morning, stating that her partner—an IDF reserve officer—had just returned from memorials at Mount Herzl for six of his friends who were killed in Lebanon, noting that they were all religious. She said they had a calm conversation with the two 18-year-olds who came to their door and asked them why they were not enlisting. Responding to criticism, she added: “On one point we agree—choosing not to serve in the army during a time like this is indeed something to be ashamed of.”
