ICE deported 442k people in fiscal year 2025
The top U.S. immigration enforcement agency deported 442,637 people from October 2024 to September 2025, according to newly released data. That is about 171,000 more than the prior fiscal year, but well below Trump’s campaign pledge of one million deportations annually.
The figure is the first official deportation total released under the Trump administration and appears in a congressional budget justification report. The Office of Homeland Security Statistics has not updated its data since November 2024, and the report does not include Homeland Security’s widely touted “self-deportation” numbers. The agency has claimed in press releases that more than two million people have self-deported but has not provided regular data.
The ICE report sets a goal of one million deportations next year, even as the agency requests less funding for fiscal year 2027 than for 2026. ICE backs a $751 million cut to detention and removal transportation budgets, citing billions in additional funding from the One Big, Beautiful Bill passed in summer 2025, and has reduced its request for officer overtime by $155 million.
Fiscal year 2025 covers the final months of Biden’s presidency and most of Trump’s first year. Of those deported, nearly 167,000 had criminal records, including convictions and pending charges, about 38% of all removals and returns, as the administration emphasizes action against the “worst of the worst.”
