Just In – Iran Threatens to Scrap US Deal Hours After Signing Over Lebanon Violations
Iran has warned it may cancel upcoming negotiations with the United States, reimpose a full blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, and respond with missiles after accusing Israel of violating the first clause of the newly signed US Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Iranian state media and officials rejected Trump’s characterization of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as acting independently. They cited continued Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon as a direct breach.
As a result, Iran placed Friday’s planned technical talks in Geneva between US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian counterpart Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on hold, just 24 hours after the agreement took effect.
The 14 point Islamabad MOU also includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz for toll free commercial traffic (initially for 60 days), lifting the US naval blockade, sanctions relief tied to compliance, and a 60 day window for final nuclear and broader talks.
