Luigi Mangione Expected in Federal Court Following Joint Hearing Request
Luigi Mangione is scheduled to appear in Manhattan federal court before U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett following a joint request by federal prosecutors and defense counsel.
The conference request submitted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James McDonald outlined that both parties agreed to convene at 11:00 a.m., sparking speculation regarding a potential plea deal in the federal stalking case.
The federal proceeding comes weeks before Mangione’s state murder trial is set to begin in Manhattan Supreme Court under Judge Gregory Carro. State prosecutors previously signaled concern that a federal guilty plea could impact state proceedings under New York double jeopardy statutes.
