Mortgage rates fall for first time in 6 weeks
Mortgage rates fell for the first time in six weeks, Freddie Mac said Thursday.
The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell to 6.67% from 6.69% last week, but remained above the 6.58% rate from a year ago. The average 15-year fixed rate fell to 5.96% from 6.01%.
Mortgage rates are influenced by factors including the Federal Reserve and geopolitics. While they are not directly tied to Fed rate decisions, they closely track the 10-year Treasury yield, which hovered around 4.64% Thursday afternoon.
