Netanyahu Orders Immediate Israeli Aid Delegation to Colombia After Devastating Earthquake
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the immediate deployment of an Israeli aid delegation to Colombia following a devastating earthquake that struck the country.
The decision came after a request for assistance from Colombian President Gustavo Petro. Israel said its delegation will provide Colombia with the necessary support and assistance as the country responds to the disaster.
“The State of Israel shares in the grief of the families of those killed in the disaster and will provide the State of Colombia with all necessary assistance,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Official estimates suggest that the 7.4-magnitude quake, which struck the South American country just after 7 a.m. local time on Monday, also injured 3,770 people, destroyed more than 9,550 homes and impacted more than 30,300 families.
The deployment comes just two days after Colombia announced its recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a move that marked a significant development in relations between the two countries.
Israel has a long history of sending emergency and search-and-rescue teams abroad following major disasters, providing expertise and assistance to countries affected by earthquakes and other large-scale emergencies.
