NFL owners unanimously approve the sale of the Seahawks to Vinod Khosla and his family
NFL owners on Wednesday unanimously approved the $9.612 billion sale of the Seattle Seahawks to Vinod Khosla and his family, currently part owners of the San Francisco 49ers.
The agreement, announced July 11, became official following Wednesday’s special owners meeting in Atlanta. The sale was made in accordance with the wishes of late owner Paul Allen.
Khosla, founder of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Khosla Ventures, has a net worth of $13.7 billion, according to Forbes. Goodell said his family’s experience with the 49ers made them attractive buyers because they understand the NFL, NFC West, Seattle community and its fans, known as the “12s.”
Khosla’s wife, Neeru, said their son, Neal, a longtime football fan, pushed the family to pursue the purchase. Their daughter, Nina, also attended Wednesday’s meeting.
“We’ve been very passionate about football for a long time,” Khosla said. “I would say we’ve been going to home games at the 49ers since (Neal) was 5, maybe half of all home games since he was 5. And so football is definitely a passion. … I was originally and still am a big Steelers fan. … Little known fact, but I still watch all the Steelers games, too.”
