Rare Glimpse of Iran’s New Supreme Leader
A rare 78-second archival video of Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, has surfaced.
The clip shows the 56-year-old cleric lecturing at a seminary, gesturing emphatically from a podium to an audience of male students and fellow clerics.
Mojtaba Khamenei was chosen as the Islamic Republic’s third Supreme Leader on March 9, 2026, days after his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s assassination. It marks the first father-to-son succession since the 1979 revolution.
Long reclusive and rarely photographed or filmed speaking in public, he has yet to deliver a live address since taking power.
The video emerged after his first official message, read aloud on state television rather than spoken in person, in which he vowed continued military resistance amid the ongoing war. His limited visibility has fueled speculation about his health and the regime’s stability.
This modest archival footage offers one of the few public windows into the background of the man now guiding Iran through crisis.
