Sephora denies opening stores in Israel; will sell products via Israeli retailer
Sephora has no plans to open its own stores in Israel, the LVMH-owned beauty retailer said Wednesday, denying reports that it would open its first stores later this month, while confirming a partnership with an Israeli retailer.
Sephora Collection, its in-house beauty brand, signed a temporary resale agreement with Israeli retailer Glam42. Products will be available at some Glam42 stores starting at the end of August.
Reports had said three stores would open August 20 at Tel Aviv’s Azrieli Center, the Ayalon Mall in Ramat Gan and Jerusalem’s Malha Mall, along with five “corners,” or boutiques inside other shops.
After the reports, an Israeli Foreign Ministry social media account posted, “Welcome to Israel, Sephora!”
The Glam42 partnership comes as brands operating in Israel face pressure from an anti-Israel boycott movement that has grown since the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, massacre in southern Israel sparked the Gaza war and conflict on other fronts.
Sephora sells makeup, skincare products and fragrances.
