Tesla Nears Unveiling of Radical New ‘Flying’ Roadster

Tesla is close to unveiling the long-delayed next-generation Roadster, potentially as soon as this month, according to a report from The Information Friday.
The reveal has been pushed back repeatedly since the car’s prototype debut in 2017, with target dates slipping from 2020 to April 2026 and then to August 2026.
The event is expected to double as the vehicle’s demo, showcasing performance so extreme it could momentarily lift the car off the ground. The centerpiece is a SpaceX-developed cold-gas thruster system, reportedly codenamed A71, that would allow the Roadster to accelerate rapidly and potentially hover slightly above the ground.
CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly hyped the car’s capabilities, once claiming it would be “better than all the James Bond cars combined.” Musk reportedly received a personal demo of the thruster system in April, and the unveiling is set to take place in Texas, where production is now eyed for 2027.
Adding to the momentum, Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen said in August that the reveal is coming “very soon”, and Musk has been re-teasing the event on X. Still, given nearly nine years of delays, Tesla has not officially confirmed a date, and skepticism remains warranted until an invitation goes out.
