🚨Train Disruptions Hit Ben Gurion Airport Station Following Power Line Failure
Passengers at the Ben Gurion Airport railway station were evacuated from the platforms following a power line rupture, causing widespread travel disruptions while Israel Railways maintained that the station remained officially open.
Israel Railways issued a statement addressing the incident: “Due to a localized malfunction currently being handled, delays may occur in train traffic to Ben Gurion Airport, Jerusalem, and Modi’in. The Ben Gurion Airport railway station has not been evacuated of passengers. The station continues with ongoing operations.”
The disruption adds to a growing pattern of infrastructure issues across the rail network. Last month, a similar localized electrification failure occurred when an overhead power cable near the Lod rail line snapped and burned, forcing the movement of a twelve-car train to clear the area for repairs. That incident halted rail traffic across the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, creating severe crowding and heavy passenger loads.
Investigations and previous reporting from TheMarker have highlighted systemic neglect within existing electrification infrastructure, noting that several sections lack thorough maintenance inspections. The railway has faced multiple serious safety incidents, including a freight train striking electrification infrastructure in August 2025, and heavy steel coils falling from a freight train at the Haifa Merkaz HaShmona station last month.
