Trump Says DeSantis Seeking Administration Role – Axios

President Trump has told confidants that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is “begging” for a job in his administration, including attorney general, Axios reports.

Six sources said DeSantis has also expressed interest in becoming secretary of defense and even serving on the U.S. Supreme Court. DeSantis is finishing his second term in January and is “looking for what to do next,” according to one source, who said Trump is inclined to help him.

The issue came up after a lunch at Trump National Doral in Miami a week ago Sunday. “Ron was begging me to be AG,” Trump told one confidant, according to a source. Another said, “There was a conversation at that lunch. I don’t think AG is real. But he’s gonna be looking for work and Trump likes him.”

The discussions reportedly intensified after Trump replaced Kristi Noem as homeland security secretary and Pam Bondi as attorney general. Todd Blanche, who used to be Trump’s personal lawyer and Bondi’s deputy, is now acting attorney general. One adviser said Trump wants Blanche to pursue indictments of political foes in the “Grand Conspiracy” case and has “about 90 days” to prove himself.

Sources said Trump and DeSantis first discussed a role last year, including defense secretary, but Trump chose Pete Hegseth, who remains in good standing.

One source said DeSantis is “100% not interested” in attorney general, but would consider defense secretary or the Supreme Court, his “dream job.” He is also said to have a close relationship with Justice Clarence Thomas, described as almost a father-son bond and a potential legacy for Trump.

DeSantis ran against Trump in 2024, and advisers say distrust still lingers, though one Trump adviser said “bygones are bygones.” Another said Trump needs absolute trust at the Justice Department, but would consider him for Defense or the Court.
