Trump bought shares in Elon Musk’s SpaceX in June, financial disclosure shows
President Trump invested between $15,001 and $50,000 in Elon Musk’s SpaceX on June 23, according to a financial disclosure he signed Aug. 12 and made public Aug. 22. The purchase was among more than 1,000 stock trades Trump made in June.
SpaceX priced the biggest-ever U.S. IPO on June 12, valuing the space, satellite and AI provider at $1.77 trillion.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle said that third-party financial institutions independently manage Trump’s portfolio and replicate “recognized indexes, such as the Schwab 1000.” He said neither Trump nor his family can direct, influence or provide input on investments or their timing.
The investment creates a new financial link between Trump and SpaceX as his administration makes decisions that could affect the company. SpaceX is a U.S. military contractor that frequently seeks federal approvals. Trump on Thursday directed his team to help drastically increase U.S. commercial space launches, a sector in which SpaceX is dominant.
SBA leader and Trump Cabinet member Kelly Loeffler have reportedly earned millions from SpaceX’s IPO. Loeffler first invested in xAI, Musk’s AI and social media company that later merged with SpaceX, then invested again after Trump nominated her to lead the SBA. PitchBook analyst Franco Granda estimated her first investment was worth $7 million to $2.6 billion on IPO day, and the second $2.2 million to $25.4 million, depending on the amounts and dates invested.
