U.S. Navy Intercepts and Boards Sanctioned Iranian Vessel in Indian Ocean

Overnight, U.S. forces conducted a “right-of-visit” maritime interdiction and boarding of the stateless, sanctioned vessel M/T Tifani. The operation took place without incident in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility as part of a mission to disrupt illicit networks providing material support to Iran.

The U.S. issued a firm warning following the operation, stating: “International waters are not a refuge for sanctioned vessels.” Officials emphasized that they will continue to pursue global enforcement efforts to interdict sanctioned vessels anywhere they operate.
