Judge in Argentina removed from office after calling Jews ‘rats’ and ‘vipers’
Argentine federal judge Alfredo López of Mar del Plata has been dismissed from office by the Disciplinary Tribunal for Judges of the Argentine Judicial Council.
The decision followed a series of social media posts in which he referred to Jews as rats and a brood of vipers while questioning their loyalty to Argentina.
Complaints about the pattern of statements were filed by civil society groups including the Argentine Forum Against Antisemitism. The tribunal ruled that the conduct constituted poor performance and a serious ethical violation involving symbolic violence against the Jewish community.
This is the first removal of an Argentine judge specifically for antisemitic behavior. López described the proceedings as ideological persecution and cited freedom of expression but the tribunal proceeded with the dismissal.
