IDF Home Front Command develops early warning system for Hezbollah rocket, drone attacks – Channel 12
The Home Front Command has developed the capability to issue advanced warnings for attacks launched from Lebanese territory, Israel’s Channel 12 reported. The warning window will vary depending on the geographic area targeted, and the system is expected to be implemented within the next few days.
In March, Home Front Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Shay Klepper told local authority leaders that warning time for attacks from Lebanon is a major concern, Channel 12 reported. He also said he had convened a team of experts to look for ways to extend warning time. Later that month, he said the time between sirens and the requirement to take cover in areas near the Lebanese border would be extended.
Earlier this month, Klepper said the siren warning time would be extended further for several northern communities. “The move is part of an orderly, responsible process based on accumulated experience,” he said. “The extension of the times is intended to enable optimal preparation in emergencies, thereby strengthening security and protecting the lives of residents.”
The warning time had already been extended since the start of Operation Roaring Lion and the IDF’s intensified counterterrorism operations in southern Lebanon.
On Tuesday, the Home Front Command said it is updating its mobile phone and smart TV warning apps to better clarify the type of event and provide clearer instructions. The new system will include a color-coded scale, an icon, and instructions depending on the warning type, using a traffic light style system of red, yellow, and green alerts.
