Military police Preparing Large-Scale Operations to Arrest Chareidi Draft Dodgers
The IDF has requested that Israeli Police allocate forces for planned operations targeting Chareidi draft dodgers as early as the beginning of June, according to a report published Monday by Kan News.
The request is currently being reviewed by the police operations division, with discussions expected regarding the manpower needed for the operation. In the past, Police Commissioner Danny Levy refused to assign forces for such missions, but a recent Supreme Court ruling criticized the police for the lack of enforcement.
According to reports, the planned crackdown would focus mainly on Chareidi population centers in central Israel and would involve proactive arrest operations carried out jointly by Israeli Police and the Military Police, not merely the detention of deserters encountered randomly by officers. The planned operations were first reported earlier Monday by journalist Kobi Yisrael on Kol Barama Radio.
During previous discussions between the police and the military, police officials reportedly requested authorization to mobilize Border patrol Police reserve companies during the operations due to the heavy security workload, but those requests were denied.
