Israeli Activists Detained After Attempted Korban Pesach at Al-Aqsa Compound
A group of Israeli activists was intercepted and detained by Israeli police last week after attempting to bring goats into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem. The individuals, identified as members of far-right settler groups, stated their intent was to perform a Korban Pesach in honor of Pesach.
The incident occurred amidst heightened tensions in the region, particularly as the site has remained largely closed to Palestinian worshippers for over a month. The Jerusalem Governorate condemned the actions, warning that such attempts represent a “dangerous escalation” and are part of broader efforts to alter the status quo of the holy site.
While these groups have made similar annual attempts for years, such rituals are strictly prohibited under the long-standing rules governing the compound. Israeli authorities confirmed that the men were stopped before they could reach the site, and the animals were confiscated to prevent further provocation at the sensitive religious landmark.
