Russia builds secret drone bases within striking range of NATO
Russia has expanded a network of drone launch sites near its borders with Ukraine and Belarus, with at least 10 bases equipped to launch long-range attack drones, according to a Telegraph investigation.
Satellite imagery and leaked documents identified at least 59 newly built launch rails, including around 20 designed for Russia’s latest long-range drones. Some sites are converted military bases and civilian airports, while others have been constructed in more remote areas.
The facilities are already being used for strikes against Ukraine but could also place NATO territory within range. Newer Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet-powered drones have ranges approaching 1,000 kilometers and can carry payloads of around 90 kilograms, potentially putting Warsaw within reach from some sites.
Several facilities are still expanding, while one has storage capacity for more than 1,000 drones.
