.US President Donald Trump tells NBC News that he is not demanding that Lebanon be a part of a short-term deal with Iran
In an interview for NBC News, US President Donald Trump said that he would not unfreeze Iranian assets or lift any sanctions upfront as part of any agreement.
When asked if those measures would come later, Trump responded, “Comes after. Yeah. If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking.”
On Lebanon, Trump said that he is not demanding that it be a part of a short-term deal with Iran.
Trump declined to say whether he knows the exact whereabouts of Iran’s supreme leader, but suggested the U.S. may have that information.
“I don’t want to say whether or not I know where he is,” Trump said. “But there’s a good probability that I do.”
“He is younger, and I think he is more rational.” Trump also said he is willing to talk directly with the new supreme leader of Iran: “I would do it if he wants, but I have not spoken to him directly.”
Trump said the U.S. would work with Iran to remove and destroy its highly enriched uranium if a deal is reached.
“If we make a deal … we’ll all go together. It’ll be our equipment. We’ll take it out and destroy it,” Trump said.
He added that the U.S. would secure the material “with them, or without them,” saying that if no agreement is reached, Washington would act militarily before recovering the uranium.
