Uber Invests in Zipline to Scale Drone Deliveries for Uber Eats

Uber is investing in the drone delivery company Zipline as part of a broader push to expand autonomous aerial logistics for its Uber Eats platform.

The two companies have set a target of completing one million drone deliveries every day by the end of 2029. Uber’s chief executive has stated that drones will accelerate growth in the food delivery business by enabling orders to arrive faster and to travel over longer distances than traditional courier methods allow.

This approach aims to improve the overall customer experience while addressing key cost challenges in last mile delivery. By moving a growing share of smaller orders into the air, Uber can potentially serve more distant locations efficiently without a proportional rise in human driver expenses.

The partnership builds on Zipline’s proven commercial track record, which already includes millions of successful autonomous deliveries across multiple markets. Together the firms see drones becoming a meaningful contributor to Uber Eats expansion in the years ahead.
