UK Probes Major Muslim Charity After Director Arrested on U.S. Terror Financing Charges
The UK Charity Commission has launched an investigation into the Al-Khair Foundation—one of Britain’s largest Muslim charities—following the arrest of its global director, 45-year-old Mohammad Yousef Hasna.
Hasna was taken into custody in the UK and is awaiting extradition to New York on U.S. federal charges alleging he conspired to funnel money and material support to Hamas under the guise of humanitarian aid.
According to U.S. prosecutors, Hasna worked closely with senior Hamas official Ghazi Hamad to direct millions of dollars in cash and diverted humanitarian supplies to the terror group.
Indictments reveal ledger exchanges showing over $5.4 million in incoming funds and $3.1 million in expenses, including more than $670,000 personally received by Hamad.
Prosecutors also accuse Hasna of manipulating documentation and instructing donors to film aid parcels without identifying marks to conceal Hamas’s involvement.
The investigation highlights a steep rise in the charity’s reported income, which grew from $41 million in 2023 to approximately $100 million in 2025.
