🚨US designates Palestine Action group as a terrorist organization
The United States designated Palestine Action as a terrorist group on Wednesday as President Trump’s administration seeks to crack down on left-wing groups as part of its counterterrorism efforts.
The move follows Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s call last month to officials from more than 60 countries to refocus international counterterrorism efforts on what he called “far-left terror.” Democrats have raised concerns that the administration is politicizing counterterrorism and diverting resources from other extremist threats.
Trump singled out the anti-fascist antifa movement during his 2024 campaign and vowed to target left-wing groups he accused of fomenting violence following the killing of conservative activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk last year.
“Far-left extremists, their fronts, and their enablers should be on notice,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, adding that the U.S. would use economic tools to cut off their financial support.
The Treasury also sanctioned an Italy-based entity it accused of providing digital architecture, tools and services to antifa and other far-left groups.
Britain has also banned Palestine Action, which increasingly targeted Israel-linked defense companies, particularly Elbit Systems. Co-founder Huda Ammori said the group’s activities were aimed at “saving lives by disrupting the Israeli war machine” and called the U.S. ban dangerous to free speech and civil liberties.
The U.K. Supreme Court will hear an appeal over whether Britain’s ban was lawful.
The Treasury also sanctioned Masar Badil, accusing it of operating as a front for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, already designated by the U.S. as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
